Purchase Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Many states are beginning to put through laws that require people to have carbon monoxide gas detectors in their houses. People and animals are very susceptible to toxic carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a gas you can’t see or smell.  This makes it extremely dangerous. Carbon monoxide typically occurs when devices in the house burn natural gas or oil and carbon monoxide is a gas given off after the combustion. Living areas can quickly become dangerous when large amounts of carbon monoxide is not properly vented.

Some of the more common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include feeling tired, nauseous, and having a headache. If more then one person in your house feels this way, get out of your house right away. When you get out of the house and then you feel better it is an indication that carbon monoxide may be a factor and you should get a detector or multiple detectors. Carbon monoxide can cause both brain damage and finally death if you are exposed to it for too long.

The first step in stopping carbon monoxide posioning is to make sure all of your fuel burning applience are properly vented. The second thing you should really do is a purchase carbon monoxide detector. As I stated earlier, many states are starting to make these mandatory for homeowners. You can easily find carbon monoxide detectors online or at your local stores.  There are some fire/ carbon monoxide detector that are a combination. I would ultimately recommend getting two separate units, one for fire and one for carbon dioxide.

If you have a multi level home, you may wish to purchase a model that is interconnected. The interconnected models can either be wired or wireless.  An electrician may need to install wired models. Interconnected models give the advantage if one of the alarms goes off they all will go off.  This way you can surely hear the alarm no matter where you are in the house. Talk about an outstanding safety feature.

You will need to decide if you would like a detector model that is hard wired into your electrical system or if you are more interested in models that are battery operated. Also please keep in mind that any battery operated models will have to have their batteries replaced every six months.
